Sheep
While sheep are hardy and adaptable, they do best in temperate climates with shade during hot summers and shelter during cold winters.
Sheep are also known for being relatively low-maintenance compared to some animals, but they still require routine care, including shearing, vaccinations, hoof trimming, and parasite control. With proper attention, they can be a delightful and productive addition to a small farm or rural homestead.
I want a sheep. What do I need?
A good rule of thumb is 2-3 sheep per acre with a good fence. Additionally: a source for good hay; a vet (establish yourself as a client BEFORE you need them); if no barn or shelter is available, make sure you at least have a small area for catching animals.
Emergency situations may arise that you will need to catch them for the vet or a trip to the animal hospital. That being said if you do not own a trailer, know where to borrow one, or have at least 2 contacts for animal transporters.
